Mapping ULK1 Protein Modifications to Show Linked Control of Cell Cleanup and Energy Use

Updated

Abstract

S450, S623, and S638 are the predominant phosphosites in ULK1, detected across 891 profiling and 245 differential human phosphoproteomic datasets.

  • The phosphosites S450, S623, and S638 are conserved across mammalian species and human ULK1 and ULK2.
  • Co-regulatory networks associated with these phosphosites link to processes involved in autophagosome formation and function.
  • ULK1 phosphoregulation may influence multiple stages of selective autophagy beyond its known role in initiating the process.
  • Significant upregulation of the predominant ULK1 phosphosites was observed in protein-normalized analysis across 12 cancer cohorts.
  • Key metabolic enzymes related to glycogen, sphingolipid, phospholipid, and glycolytic pathways are associated with ULK1 phosphosites.
