Very fast light control of single quantum dot spin qubits

Updated

Abstract

Single-qubit operations on quantum dot spins can extend qubit decoherence from a few nanoseconds to several microseconds.

  • Single spins in semiconductor quantum dots can represent qubits with a reasonably long decoherence time.
  • Optical coupling to excited states allows for rapid initialization, manipulation, and measurement of spin states.
  • A complete set of all-optical single-qubit operations has been demonstrated on a single quantum dot spin.
  • Decoherence mechanisms due to hyperfine interactions can be mitigated using spin echo sequences.
  • Long-distance spin-spin entanglement may be achievable through entangled photon emission from spins.
