Genome-wide DNA methylation analysis revealed changes in differentially methylated positions following a 1-month vegan diet intervention in 48 healthy individuals.

  • The vegan diet group exhibited a higher degree of gene-promoter silencing in cancer-related and cell growth pathways.
  • An anti-inflammatory shift was observed in the vegan diet group, marked by decreased neutrophil and increased CD4+ T-cell proportions.
  • Changes in gene promoter methylation were consistent with dietary macronutrient shifts, silencing lipid metabolism genes and enhancing insulin pathway genes.
  • Epigenetic clocks PhenoAge and GrimAge indicated a deceleration of biological aging in the vegan diet group.
  • The Blood&Skin clock showed an opposing acceleration in biological aging, suggesting complex effects of dietary changes.
