Comparing vortioxetine and venlafaxine XR in Asian adults with major depression

Abstract

Vortioxetine showed non-inferiority to venlafaxine XR with a difference of -1.2 MADRS points at Week 8.

  • Both vortioxetine and venlafaxine XR significantly reduced MADRS total scores from baseline to Week 8.
  • Remission rates for vortioxetine and venlafaxine XR were similar at 43.1% and 41.4%, respectively.
  • Fewer patients discontinued vortioxetine treatment compared to venlafaxine XR, with withdrawal rates of 18.0% versus 27.4%.
  • Common adverse events for both treatments included nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth.
  • Venlafaxine XR also reported additional adverse effects such as accidental overdose and decreased appetite in over 5% of patients.
