Welding Metals Linked to Heart Disease Risk in Male Welders Through Faster Biological Aging

Among 419 male welders, 22.2% had a high 10-year ASCVD risk.

  • Copper exposure was associated with increased 10-year ASCVD risk, with an odds ratio of 1.051.
  • Biological aging, measured by two methods, showed positive associations with ASCVD risk.
  • The Klemera-Doubal method and Phenotypic Age both indicated that accelerated biological aging correlated with higher ASCVD risk.
  • Copper exposure was linked to accelerated biological aging, suggesting a potential pathway for increased ASCVD risk.
  • Mediation analysis indicated that biological aging could explain up to 43.8% of the relationship between copper and ASCVD risk.
