DNA Methylation Patterns Associated with Long COVID Linked to T4 Immune Cells and Shared with Lung Scarring Risk

Updated

Abstract

No molecular signature specific to Long-COVID has been identified in patients with diverse symptoms.

  • Long-COVID is associated with debilitating physical and cognitive deficits.
  • Previous studies have not reported comparisons of Long-COVID with fibrosis-related epigenetic changes.
  • A subset of DNA methylation changes may be present in Long-COVID patients from multiple cohorts.
  • These changes could predominate in specific immune or inflammatory cell types.
  • There may be an overlap between the epigenetic profile of Long-COVID patients and those at risk for pulmonary fibrosis.
