Xanthohumol's potential to treat age-related bone loss by regulating cell recycling processes through the AKT/mTOR pathway in aging models

Abstract

Xanthohumol (XAN) improved bone quality and cognitive function in aging mice with senile osteoporosis.

  • XAN showed potent anti-SOP effects, as evidenced by enhanced bone quality.
  • Metabolomics analysis indicated that XAN mitigated bone loss through activation of the AKT/mTOR/p70S6K pathway.
  • In vitro studies revealed that XAN improved osteoblast function by promoting cell differentiation and reducing apoptosis.
  • Autophagy inhibition counteracted the cytoprotective effects of XAN in damaged osteoblasts.
  • Binding assays confirmed that mTOR is a direct target of XAN.
