Zexieyin formula may reduce Alzheimer's disease by calming harmful brain support cells

Updated

Abstract

ZXYF treatment preserved blood-brain barrier integrity and improved cognitive function in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model.

  • ZXYF restored the expression of tight junction proteins ZO-1, occludin, and claudin-5.
  • Treatment with ZXYF reduced astrocyte activation, indicated by decreased levels of GFAP.
  • Neuroinflammation was lowered following ZXYF administration, as shown by a reduction in hippocampal neuroinflammatory cytokines.
  • Thirteen major bioactive constituents of ZXYF were identified, with the JAK2/STAT3 pathway emerging as a key mechanism in its effects.
  • In vitro experiments demonstrated that ZXYF protected endothelial cells from injury induced by inflammatory cytokines.
