Abstract

Serum Zn was depleted in CLP-induced septic pregnant mice.

  • Septic acute kidney injury (AKI) in pregnant mice led to significant kidney tissue pathology and intestinal barrier disruption.
  • Dysbiosis of specific gut microbiota was observed alongside repressed mitophagy and enhanced ferroptosis in kidney tissues.
  • Zn treatment partially improved kidney injury and activated the MTF1/Nrf2 pathway.
  • Intestinal barrier function and the abundance of specific gut microbiota were restored following Zn administration.
  • Zn may activate the PINK1/Parkin pathway and mitophagy through the gut-kidney axis, which is associated with reduced ferroptosis.
