  • Separately, a PNAS study flipped a core assumption: rather than suppressing hunger-promoting AgRP neurons, GLP-1 drugs in female mice actually required those neurons to be active to produce their full weight-lowering effect — a finding that scrambles the standard model of how these drugs work in the brain.

Why it matters: If GLP-1 benefits are partly weight-independent, dosing strategies, treatment duration, and who qualifies for these drugs may all need to be rethought.
