Irregular Daily Activity Patterns and Body Clock Gene Levels in Two-Month-Old Female Alzheimer’s Model Mice

Updated

Abstract

In 2-month-old female APPswe/PS1dE9 mice, circadian rhythm alterations in locomotor activity were observed.

  • The APPswe/PS1dE9 transgene affects levels and patterns of circadian rhythm in locomotor activity.
  • Clock gene expression of Per1, Per2, Cry1, and Cry2 typically increases at night in wild-type mice but is blunted for Cry1 and Cry2 in APPswe/PS1dE9 mice.
  • Altered circadian regulation of activity is associated with abnormalities in biomolecular expression in the hippocampus and medulla-pons regions.
  • These circadian effects may occur before the development of amyloid plaques commonly seen in Alzheimer's Disease.
