Faster Biological Aging Linked to Smaller Brain Volumes

Updated

Abstract

14,725 participants were analyzed, revealing that advanced biological aging is associated with reduced brain tissue volumes.

  • Negative associations were found between KDM-acceleration and various brain volumes, including gray matter and white matter.
  • KDM-acceleration showed a significant negative correlation with hippocampal volumes on both sides.
  • PhenoAge-acceleration was also negatively associated with brain volumes, particularly in white matter and thalamus.
  • Subgroup analyses indicated that socioeconomic and biological factors may influence the relationship between biological aging and brain volume.
