Faster biological aging linked to sudden kidney problems after surgery in 94,006 patients

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Accelerated biological aging was linked to higher postoperative acute kidney injury risk and longer hospital stay after surgery.

Evidence

Retrospective multicentre cohort analysis of 94,006 surgical inpatients under general anesthesia at three academic medical centers in China from 2015 to 2023 measured PhenoAgeAccel and 7-day postoperative AKI.

Caveat

The observational design can show adjusted associations, not prove that accelerated biological aging causes AKI or that modifying it would reduce risk.
