Using an active labor management plan linked to fewer cesarean sections in Nicaragua

Abstract

In a study of 67 women with uncomplicated pregnancies, the caesarean section rate was 0%.

  • No cases of dystocia were reported during the labor management.
  • Active management of labor is suggested to be safe and feasible in a rural hospital setting.
  • The approach may contribute to reduced maternal mortality and morbidity.
  • Perinatal outcomes were not compromised under active labor management.
