Activity-Based Group Therapy May Reduce Anxiety in Mothers with Babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Updated

Abstract

Activity-based group therapy resulted in a significant reduction in maternal anxiety scores in the NICU, with p-values of 0.005, 0.07, and 0.009 across different sessions.

  • Seventeen mothers in both control and experimental groups completed the study.
  • In the experimental group, post-test anxiety scores were significantly lower than pre-test scores after various sessions.
  • The intervention group's post-test anxiety scores were significantly lower than those of the control group (p = 0.009).
  • The activity-based group sessions may effectively reduce maternal anxiety in the NICU.
  • A decrease in maternal anxiety could be associated with improved infant and parenting outcomes.
