Special amino acid-based fats allow lung gene editing through inhalation for therapy

Updated

Abstract

Essence

An amino acid-derived lipid nanoparticle platform enabled inhaled RNA delivery of base editors that corrected CFTR G542X models of cystic fibrosis.

Evidence

This formulation and preclinical platform study screened 960 ionizable lipids and tested CHCha-10 nanoparticles in airway cells, organoids, mice, ferrets, and cystic fibrosis mice.

Caveat

The evidence is limited to cells, organoids, and animal models, with no human safety, dosing, or durability data reported.
