New Blood Vessel Growth Role of GLP-1(32-36) in Healing Diabetic Poorly Circulated Legs Through GLP-1 Receptor and Sugar Breakdown in Mice

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1(32-36) significantly improved angiogenic function and blood perfusion in ischemic limbs of streptozocin-induced type 1 diabetic mice.

  • GLP-1(32-36) did not affect insulin secretion.
  • The compound enhanced angiogenesis in endothelial progenitor cells exposed to high glucose.
  • It is associated with improved mitochondrial function and metabolism through the GLP-1 receptor pathway.
  • GLP-1(32-36) activated the GLP-1 receptor-dependent pathway involving endothelial NO synthase, cGMP, and protein kinase G.
  • The findings suggest a potential role for GLP-1(32-36) as a monotherapy or in combination with existing therapies for peripheral artery disease.
