Link between poor appetite and muscle loss in older adults receiving outpatient rehabilitation

Updated

Abstract

Sarcopenia was observed in 65.8% of 120 community-dwelling older adults receiving outpatient rehabilitation.

  • Anorexia, as assessed by the simplified nutritional appetite questionnaire, was found in 23.3% of participants.
  • Logistic regression analysis indicated that lower body mass index is associated with a higher likelihood of sarcopenia.
  • Anorexia showed a strong association with sarcopenia, with an odds ratio of 5.35.
  • The findings suggest a potential link between anorexia and sarcopenia in older adults undergoing outpatient rehabilitation.
