Antidepressant effects of agomelatine compared to SSRI and SNRI without placebo in combined direct studies

Updated

Abstract

A total of 2034 patients were randomized to compare the efficacy of agomelatine versus SSRIs and SNRIs.

  • Agomelatine showed a greater reduction in HAM-D(17) total scores compared to SSRIs and SNRIs.
  • Patients receiving agomelatine had better response rates on both the HAM-D(17) and Clinical Global Impression-Improvement scales.
  • The findings were consistent even in patients with severe depression.
  • Agomelatine was associated with better tolerability compared to SSRIs and SNRIs.
