Shouhuitongbian's blood sugar-lowering effects linked to changes in gut bacteria

Updated

Abstract

SHTB treatment at 200 mg/kg/d improved insulin resistance and reduced hyperglycemia in mice.

  • SHTB alleviated glucose intolerance and lipid metabolism dysfunction.
  • The composition of intestinal flora was reshaped, with increased levels of Akkermansia and Parabacteroides.
  • SHTB enhanced the production of short-chain fatty acids and branched short-chain fatty acids in the gut.
  • Levels of branched-chain amino acids decreased in both fecal and circulating forms after SHTB administration.
  • The IRS-1/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was upregulated following treatment with SHTB.
