Blood pressure medicine matched to daily blood pressure patterns as personalized treatment

Updated

Abstract

Circadian blood pressure values may differ significantly from clinic blood pressure values.

  • Antihypertensive therapy guided solely by clinic blood pressure might not be appropriate.
  • Ambulatory blood pressure parameters are better predictors of outcomes than clinic measurements.
  • Two critical periods, after awakening and nighttime, show significant prognostic relevance for blood pressure.
  • Some patients experience higher blood pressure after awakening, which is linked to increased risk.
  • High nighttime blood pressure is also associated with elevated risk.
  • Tailoring evening medication based on individual nighttime blood pressure patterns may enhance therapeutic effectiveness.
