Updated

Abstract

Of 101 patients referred, 61 were recruited, achieving a trial recruitment rate of 68% of the target sample size of 90 participants.

  • Participants had a mean age of 16.3 years and were diagnosed with first-episode psychosis.
  • The study observed a high retention rate, with 84% of participants remaining at the 6-month primary endpoint.
  • Adherence to psychological intervention was high, with 82% of participants attending six or more sessions of CBT.
  • Adherence to antipsychotic medication was moderate, with 65% of participants receiving at least 6 consecutive weeks of treatment.
  • Mean PANSS scores improved at the 6-month endpoint, with reductions of 6.2 points for antipsychotic monotherapy, 13.1 points for psychological intervention, and 13.9 points for the combined treatment.
  • Serious adverse events occurred in 35% of patients in the combined treatment group, but none were deemed related to trial participation.
