Lack of motivation in Parkinson’s disease with sleep movement disorder

Abstract

Among 64 patients, 40% had rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD).

  • Apathy symptoms were more frequent (52% vs 42%) in patients with RBD compared to those without.
  • Patients with RBD experienced more severe apathy symptoms, with a severity score of 14.3 ± 5.8 versus 11.2 ± 4.9 (p < 0.05).
  • Isolated apathy without increased depressive symptoms was reported in 53% of patients with RBD.
  • Increased depressive symptoms were more frequent (50% vs 20%) and more severe in the RBD group.
  • Demographic and clinical characteristics were similar between the two groups.
