Asiaticoside may protect nerve cells by reducing inflammation triggered by the NLRP3 inflammasome

Abstract

Seventeen potential targets affected by Asiaticoside (AS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) were identified through network pharmacology analysis.

  • AS interacts with 149 biological pathways associated with PD.
  • The NOD-like receptor signaling pathway may mediate the effects of AS on PD.
  • In vivo studies showed that AS alleviated motor dysfunction and reduced dopaminergic neuron loss in MPTP-induced PD mice.
  • In vitro experiments indicated that AS significantly decreased IL-1β release in BV2 cells by modulating the NLRP3 signaling pathway.
  • AS forms a stable complex with the NLRP3 protein, which may inhibit inflammasome activation.
