Links between outdoor fine particle air pollution and heart disease in China

Updated

Abstract

During a median follow-up period of 11.8 years, there were 2,190 deaths documented, including 732 from cardiovascular disease (CVD).

  • Among 42,160 participants, 4,559 experienced incident total CVD, including 861 myocardial infarctions.
  • A 10 µg/m³ increase in ambient fine particulate matter was associated with a 1.12 hazard ratio for major CVD.
  • The same increase in fine particulate matter was linked to a 1.03 hazard ratio for all-cause mortality.
  • Long-term exposure to higher levels of fine particulate matter showed a positive association with total CVD and other CVD outcomes.
