Astilbin reduces brain damage after bleeding by increasing protective immune cells in mice

Abstract

Astilbin may improve neurofunctional impairments following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in mice.

  • Astilbin reduces iron buildup and neuronal death in brain tissue affected by ICH.
  • It decreases cerebral swelling and lessens damage to the blood-brain barrier associated with ICH.
  • The flavonoid increases the secretion of specific anti-inflammatory factors after ICH.
  • Astilbin promotes the accumulation of regulatory T cells in the brain near the hematoma.
  • These effects could contribute to better outcomes following ICH.
