Astrocyte SIRT3 may reduce brain inflammation after stroke by blocking the cGAS-STING pathway

Updated

Abstract

Sirtuin 3 () expression is significantly suppressed post-injury in ischemic stroke models.

  • Inhibition of SIRT3 post-stroke is linked to increased activation of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway.
  • Elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines are observed following ischemic injury.
  • Pharmacological activation or genetic overexpression of SIRT3 reduces cerebral damage and improves neurological outcomes.
  • Targeted knockdown of cGAS or STING leads to decreased inflammatory responses.
  • SIRT3 overexpression modifies gene expression related to DNA sensing and innate immune responses.
