Essence

Patients referred with long COVID showed persistent autonomic testing abnormalities that resembled pure autonomic failure after age and sex adjustment.

Evidence

A quantitative autonomic testing comparison assessed long COVID patients at least 12 weeks after infection, COVID-negative controls, and patients with pure autonomic failure using standing, Valsalva, respiratory sinus arrhythmia, and tilt-table measures.

Caveat

Because participants were referred for autonomic testing, the findings may not represent all people with long COVID.
