How Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction may improve dizziness from reduced blood flow in the back brain by linking gut fatty acids and bacteria

Updated

Abstract

BBTD administration effectively reduced the volume of cerebral infarction and improved neurologic functions in a rat model of posterior circulation ischemia vertigo.

  • BBTD treatment decreased neuronal cell death and neuroinflammation.
  • Significant changes in gut microbiota diversity and composition were observed, including an increase in beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Prevotella.
  • Relative abundances of harmful bacteria like Lachnospiraceae and Bacteroidetes were reduced following BBTD treatment.
  • BBTD administration increased the content of propionate, a short-chain fatty acid associated with neurological recovery.
  • Propionate may play a role in enhancing neurological functions and reducing apoptosis in the context of PCIV.
