Factors That Help or Hinder Using Remote Health Monitoring Technology

Abstract

A total of 33 studies investigating remote measurement technology were included in the review.

  • Studies included participants aged 8 to 95 years and were conducted in 10 countries.
  • Acceptability of remote measurement technology varied, with average usage reported between 64% and 86.5% and dropout rates ranging from 0% to 44%.
  • Identified barriers to engagement included health status, perceived utility, motivation, convenience, accessibility, and usability.
  • Emerging themes from the content analysis could inform future designs of remote measurement technology.
  • Findings suggest the need for better quantitative assessments of usage and acceptability in future studies.
