Benzodiazepines and Z-drugs linked to death risk in cancer patients: a systematic review

Updated

Abstract

A total of 4117 patients with cancer were analyzed across 18 studies, none of which found an association between benzodiazepines and survival.

  • All included studies were of low or very-low quality.
  • Most studies focused on patients in the last days or weeks of life.
  • There was no evidence demonstrating that benzodiazepines affect survival in cancer patients.
  • Survival was not the primary outcome in any of the studies reviewed.
  • No assessment was made regarding the long-term use of benzodiazepines on survival.
