Bile acid levels linked to initial and changing amyloid and tau buildup in Alzheimer's patients

Updated

Abstract

Essence

DCA- and LCA-family bile acids were linked to amyloid and tau pathology in Alzheimer's disease cohorts.

Evidence

This observational cohort analysis used Chinese Preclinical Alzheimer's Disease Study (n = 1397) and Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (n = 1275) datasets to relate bile acid levels to baseline and longitudinal AD biomarkers.

Caveat

The associations and imaging transcriptomic analyses do not prove that bile acids cause AD pathology or improve prediction clinically.
