Abstract

Up to one-third of patients with depressive disorders do not achieve adequate symptom relief after first-line antidepressant therapy.

  • Fatty acids, such as short-chain, medium-chain, and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, may be linked to depression through mechanisms like neuroinflammation and gut-brain signaling.
  • Baseline fatty acid profiles will be evaluated to determine their potential to predict the efficacy of pharmacological antidepressant treatment.
  • The association between blood fatty acid profiles and the clinical presentation of depressive disorders will also be assessed.
  • Clinical outcomes will be measured using the Beck Depression Inventory-II and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales at baseline and after 3, 6, and 12 weeks.
