Daily Blood Pressure Changes and Body Clock Patterns Linked to Heart Risks in People with High Blood Pressure

Abstract

During a median follow-up of 4.2 years, 25.6% of patients with essential hypertension experienced major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

  • High short-term blood pressure variability (BPV) is associated with a significantly greater incidence of MACE compared to low BPV (34.2% vs. 17.1%).
  • Elevated BPV remains an independent predictor of MACE with an adjusted hazard ratio of 1.89.
  • Reverse dipping in circadian blood pressure patterns is linked to an increased risk of MACE.
  • Patients exhibiting both elevated BPV and abnormal circadian patterns have the highest risk of MACE.
  • Dynamic blood pressure assessment may enhance cardiovascular risk stratification beyond mean blood pressure levels.
