The body clock gene Bmal1 reduces sudden liver damage caused by deoxynivalenol

Abstract

Mice exposed to 5 mg/kg bw/day of deoxynivalenol (DON) showed significantly elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines and impaired liver function.

  • The DON group exhibited higher levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α compared to control groups.
  • Circadian clock proteins were significantly downregulated in the liver during DON exposure.
  • Activation of the JAKs/STAT3 pathway was observed alongside liver damage and circadian rhythm disturbances.
  • Bmal1 overexpression reduced DON-induced liver damage and inflammatory cytokine levels.
  • Bile acids, such as cholic acid, decreased in the DON group relative to the control group.
