How weight change relates to blood sugar control with tirzepatide treatment in people with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

HbA1c reductions from baseline were observed in 96%-99% of participants treated with tirzepatide.

  • Participants treated with tirzepatide 5, 10, and 15 mg experienced weight loss in 87%-94%, 88%-95%, and 88%-97% of cases, respectively.
  • Statistically significant associations between HbA1c and body weight changes were found, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.1438 to 0.3130.
  • These associations were noted in SURPASS-2, -3, and -4 across all doses and in SURPASS-5 for the 5 mg dose only.
  • Both weight-independent and weight-dependent mechanisms may contribute to the improvement in glycemic control observed with tirzepatide.
