Abstract

A significant reduction of depressive symptoms is observed with bright light therapy (SMD=-0.62, P<0.001).

  • Bright light therapy is associated with improved symptoms of nonseasonal depression.
  • The most effective treatment duration for bright light therapy is noted to be 2-5 weeks.
  • Bright light therapy shows greater efficacy when used as a standalone treatment.
  • No significant improvement is reported for bright light therapy in the context of perinatal depression.
  • Moderate heterogeneity exists among the trials included in the review.
