How caffeine and CBD together affect THC’s mind effects, performance, and body processing

Updated

Abstract

Caffeine co-administration produced minimal changes in Δ9-THC effects, but CBD significantly altered these effects.

  • Caffeine (180 mg) did not substantially modify subjective effects, performance, or metabolism related to Δ9-THC.
  • Perceived driving impairment signals were noted with caffeine co-administration alongside Δ9-THC.
  • CBD (105 mg) increased subjective effects indicative of abuse liability, such as drug high, when combined with Δ9-THC and caffeine.
  • CBD co-administration also elevated plasma concentrations of Δ9-THC and its metabolite 11-OH-Δ9-THC.
  • The study highlights the necessity of evaluating the effects of full cannabinoid profiles in cannabis research.
