Cagrilintide reduces body weight by acting on two types of brain amylin receptors

Updated

Abstract

Cagrilintide treatment resulted in a body weight loss of 3.4 ± 0.51 g in wild-type mice.

  • Wild-type mice treated with cagrilintide experienced significant weight loss, while those treated with salmon calcitonin gained weight.
  • The absence of RAMP1 and RAMP3 reduced the effectiveness of cagrilintide but enhanced the weight loss effect of salmon calcitonin.
  • Both cagrilintide and salmon calcitonin reduced food intake in wild-type mice during the initial days of treatment.
  • Cagrilintide treatment led to a 57% decrease in neuronal signaling in RAMP1/3 knockout mice compared to wild-type mice.
  • Gene expression analysis indicated that RAMP1/3 may play a role in synaptic function and receptor trafficking without significant changes in the dorsal vagal complex or lateral parabrachial nucleus.
