Two years of calorie restriction and its effects on liver health markers

Updated

Abstract

After 2 years of calorie restriction, alkaline phosphatase decreased by 7 ± 1 IU/L in healthy individuals without obesity compared to those consuming a normal diet.

  • Calorie restriction may improve liver health by reducing specific liver enzymes in healthy adults.
  • Decreases in alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transferase were significant in the calorie restriction group.
  • Bilirubin levels increased in the calorie restriction group, indicating potential metabolic changes.
  • No significant changes in alanine aminotransferase or aspartate aminotransferase were observed between the groups.
  • Men in the calorie restriction group showed greater improvements in liver biomarkers compared to women.
