Abstract
Among 36,103 diabetic patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction, SGLT2 inhibitors reduced cardiovascular composite risks, with a hazard ratio of 0.89 compared to other treatments.
- SGLT2 inhibitors, when initiated within 14 days after acute myocardial infarction, are associated with lower risks of hospitalization for heart failure, myocardial infarction re-hospitalization, and cardiovascular mortality compared to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors.
- Hospitalization for heart failure risk was reduced with SGLT2 inhibitors (HR = 0.86), as well as myocardial infarction re-hospitalization (HR = 0.70) and cardiovascular mortality (HR = 0.65).
- No significant reduction in the risk of ischaemic stroke was observed with SGLT2 inhibitors compared to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors.
- The therapeutic efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors may be influenced by factors such as chronic kidney disease, patient age, and whether percutaneous coronary intervention was performed.
- The cardiovascular benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors were consistent in patients without heart failure and among new users of SGLT2 inhibitors.
