Heart and blood vessel outcomes after obesity treatment with Tirzepatide versus Semaglutide in adults without diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Tirzepatide was associated with fewer 12-month cardiovascular events than semaglutide in adults with obesity but without diabetes, mainly through lower new-onset heart failure.

Evidence

This retrospective active-comparator new-user cohort study used TriNetX electronic health records and propensity-matched 35,336 tirzepatide initiators to 35,336 semaglutide initiators.

Caveat

The real-world observational design can show association, not treatment causality, and showed no significant differences in all-cause mortality, acute coronary syndrome, or stroke.
