Beta-Caryophyllene may improve Alzheimer's-like symptoms in rats by affecting brain growth factors, nerve connections, and brain inflammation

Updated

Abstract

BCP treatment significantly improved cognitive performance and restored BDNF expression in STZ-induced AD-like rats.

  • Streptozotocin (STZ) administration led to cognitive deficits, synaptic loss, and increased neuroinflammation in rats.
  • BCP treatment enhanced spatial learning and memory retention in the cognitive tests conducted.
  • BDNF expression and synaptic plasticity markers were increased following BCP treatment.
  • Proinflammatory cytokine levels were reduced with BCP treatment, indicating a decrease in neuroinflammation.
  • Histological analysis showed normal hippocampal neuronal architecture in BCP-treated groups.
