How Artesunate and Rivastigmine Together May Improve Thinking Problems in Alzheimer's Disease

Updated

Abstract

Artesunate improved cognitive performance and biochemical markers in an Aβ-induced Alzheimer's disease rat model.

  • AD-vehicle rats showed significant deficits in memory along with elevated amyloid levels and proinflammatory markers.
  • Treatment with artesunate led to improvements in cognitive function and reduced oxidative stress markers.
  • The combination of artesunate and rivastigmine was more effective than either treatment alone.
  • Histological analysis indicated that artesunate helped preserve neuron structure and dendritic integrity in the hippocampus.
