Protective effects of liraglutide and rivastigmine, alone or combined, on memory-related brain area in rats

Abstract

The combination of liraglutide and rivastigmine significantly reduced biomarkers associated with Alzheimer's disease in a rat model.

  • The levels of MAPt, BACE1, SQSTM1/p62, and AChE in the combination-treated group were significantly lower compared to the aluminum chloride-induced Alzheimer's group.
  • Histological assessments indicated enhanced neuroprotection in the combination-treated rats.
  • Liraglutide may contribute to neuroprotection through increases in certain biomarkers associated with Alzheimer's disease.
  • Co-administration of liraglutide and rivastigmine showed superior effects compared to rivastigmine alone.
