Using Cervical Length at Mid-Pregnancy to Screen for Early Birth in Twin Pregnancies

Updated

Abstract

A total of 940 twin pregnancies were analyzed, revealing an optimal cervical length cut-off of 36 mm for predicting preterm birth before 32 weeks.

  • Cervical length (CL) demonstrated an area under the curve of 0.65 for predicting preterm birth.
  • Sensitivity for predicting preterm birth at the 36 mm cut-off was 64.1%, while specificity was 62.8%.
  • A cervical length of 36 mm or less was associated with a relative risk of 2.35 for preterm birth.
  • More than one-third of preterm births occurred in pregnancies with a normal cervical length.
  • Monochorionicity was not independently associated with preterm birth after adjusting for other factors.
