Chimeric Peptide GEP44 lowers body weight by reducing food intake and energy use in obese rats

Abstract

GEP44 reduced body weight by 3.8 ± 0.2% in male and 2.3 ± 0.4% in female rats fed a high-fat diet.

  • GEP44 administration led to a decrease in energy expenditure, core temperature, and activity levels in both male and female rats.
  • The reduction in body weight was associated with decreased energy intake and increased lipid oxidation.
  • GEP44 decreased the respiratory exchange ratio, indicating a shift in fuel utilization.
  • The reduction in energy expenditure may be linked to a decrease in diet-induced thermogenesis, potentially limiting further weight loss.
