Changes in the brain’s fluid-producing tissue after long COVID and their links to Alzheimer's disease risk

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Long COVID was linked to enlarged choroid plexus structure and Alzheimer's disease-related cognitive and plasma biomarker changes.

Evidence

This neuroimaging analysis compared 86 long COVID patients, 67 recovered COVID patients, and 26 COVID-negative healthy controls using choroid plexus volume, cerebral blood flow, cognitive measures, and plasma biomarkers.

Caveat

The findings are associative, and long COVID differed from recovered COVID in choroid plexus volume but not significantly in cerebral blood flow.
