Links Between Blood Fats, Fat-Carrying Particles, and Immune Cell Types in a Diverse Heart Health Study

Abstract

In a study of 1,735 participants, higher HDL-cholesterol was associated with increased memory B-cell proportions.

  • Higher HDL-lipoprotein concentration correlated with lower pan B-cell proportions.
  • In uncorrected analyses, elevated total-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, LDL-lipoproteins, triglycerides, and triglyceride-rich lipoproteins were linked to increased proportions of inflammatory T-cell subsets.
  • A higher concentration of HDL-lipoproteins was associated with lower proportions of T-cells related to senescence.
  • These findings suggest plasma lipids and lipoproteins may influence the composition of circulating immune cells.
