Using the belief that eating is needed to fall asleep to diagnose Night Eating Syndrome

Updated

Abstract

In a sample of 98 obese individuals with insomnia, 8 were diagnosed with Night Eating Syndrome (NES).

  • The belief that eating at night is necessary to fall back asleep was significantly noted among patients with NES.
  • Among subjects with both Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and NES, this belief was also prevalent.
  • This conviction may help identify individuals with NES among those who are obese and experience insomnia.
  • Insomnia and sleep disturbances were assessed using standardized questionnaires.
